The cord gets stuck on a lawn mower and the function does not work can produce frustration, fear and anger. But with a little research, you can determine exactly what is wrong. The problem may be as simple as tufts of grass keep the blade moving or rusty serious as a piston. There are steps you can take to help you determine how to repair a lawn mower motor stuck. Here are some guidelines to follow to find a solution.
Things you need:
- Spark plug wrench
- Socket set
- Marine oil mist
- Penetrating Oil
Instructions
1. Raise mower to check if the blade is clear. Most modern mowers are direct drive, meaning that when the blade is unable to turn the engine also will not rotate. Make sure that the blade can be rotated by removing all the obstacles in its path. Pull the starter again. If the engine is not running, go to step 2.
2. Remove the spark plug. Pull the starter. If the engine is running and the fuel has just made the hole for the spark plug, the engine was hydro locked. If no liquid comes out and the engine is not running yet, skip to step 3. It means that the emergence of the fuel as the carburetor needs to be repaired or the pear needs to allow the leakage of fuel into the cylinder. Check that when the pear is pushed, there is any resistance and it closes when the bulb is released.
3. Check the carburetor or diaphragm. If the carburetor has holes or rubber is hard and brittle, replace it. If the diaphragm is deformed, it does not take the carburetor body properly.
If the motor is blocked with the plug removed, the piston rings can be corroded on the cylinder walls. Spray a small amount of marine fogging oil into the cylinder and leave for a few moments before trying again. Try these two or three times, allow the oil to enter the ring for a little more each time. If the engine is stuck, go to step 4.
4. Pour a small amount of penetrating oil, like Marvel Mystery oil into the cylinder. Allow oil settling overnight. Try to pull the cord again. If the engine is running, change the oil and replace the spark plug. If the motor rotates more easily, but does not start, the piston ring must be replaced to restore compression. This will require the motor disassembly.
If penetrating oil does not release the cylinder, the piston is rusted in place. The engine must be rebuilt.

Tips & Warnings
Do not pull too hard on the starter cord. This can cause the cord to break or damage the starter.
Above are steps to help you deal with stuck on mower’s motor. We hope that they are helpful for you.
- Wear gloves while inspecting the area of the slide under the mower, as they can be sharp.
- Do not allow anyone to pull the starter under the mower.
- In case the engine will not start:
- See engine starting, check that all safety devices active
- Some engines are equipped with safety check of oil level.
- Check the ignition, remove the spark plug and electroplate which against the engine block, pull the starter.
- It can also come from the test without RFI.
- Check the air filter if it is dirty clean, damp engine floods, dry the filter.
- Remove the spark plug and turn the vacuum motor to remove the excess Refueling.
- Remount the spark plug and filter and make the Startup operations
